Purify Your Water and Air
We used to buy bottled water for our home’s drinking water. We invested extensively in Mountain Valley Water through home delivery since it was the drinking water my mother needed. However, our local Mountain Valley Water delivery service (which is now out of business and sold to a Little Rock-based company) was charging extremely high prices (it was running about $800 every four months) for the amount of water we needed. Mountain Valley also suffered from a water shortage where we were unable to even purchase some water for a little bit!
We had an Alexapure water filter stored in our cabinet that was on hand for an emergency situation (such as if we went “off grid” with an EMP attack) since the Alexapure can even filter nasty lake water into drinking water (and we have a lake nearby if we needed to run it through a filter). Since running out of Mountain Valley water was indeed an emergency for us, we brought out our Alexapure water filter and took it through a test drive with our tap water.
The water tastes great. The Alexapure is also filtering out all the impurities and providing drinking water that at on-par with the water we were receiving through Mountain Valley delivery, and we’re saving hundreds of dollars a year. We still occasionally buy Mountain Valley water from our local grocery store (Harps) now that it is back in stock, as we still love Mountain Valley water when we need bottled water and prefer it to any other brands of bottled water. However, the Alexapure water purifier has been the best investment we made in years for affordable drinking water anytime, plus it’s great to have on hand for emergencies. We even brought it with us on a recent trip to Eureka Springs and used it in our cabin!
My Patriot Supply is a great place to purchase one (I don’t have any affiliate program with them, I just like the company), plus they offer the best pricing on the replacement filters. The filters have lasted at least a year for us, and we replenish the purifier at least once a day. I recently picked a second one up for my brother for a Christmas present.
Another good Christmas present idea is the ability to purify your home’s air. We live in an area with poor air quality (due to neighbors involved in illegal drug manufacturing activity, we are seriously considering moving). To help combat the air pollutants, we are using the Coway Mega 400 air purifier (we ordered ours from Home Depot, and we actually have two, one at each end of the house). The Coway Mega does a good job purifying the air, and our energy bills have actually gone down with our HVAC unit circulating cleaner air. They also offer a slightly-smaller 300 model and 300S and 400S models that offer smart home integration (I opted for the non-smart home models).
To monitor air quality inside and outside your home, an air quality monitor is a super useful tool. I own three Davis AirLinks, one installed outside and two installed inside my home, and I check them daily for air quality monitoring (Disclaimer, I work for Davis Instruments and AEM, its parent company). The Davis AirLink is my personal favorite air quality monitor and also makes a great Christmas present. I also own a PurpleAir Zen and have it installed outdoors since I wanted to compare the readings between my DavisAirLink with the PurpleAir, and I’ve found it to be useful.
This Christmas, consider adding water or air purification devices to your shopping list and give your home something useful that will improve the quality of your life.
