Simplify Life: Cancel Unnecessary Subscriptions
This weekend I spent some extra time examining my subscriptions and services list. I’ve already canceled a range of subscriptions that I’m not fully getting enough benefit out of in order to justify the monthly or annual service expense. There are other bills I am looking into reducing (and I’ll discuss those in a future segment of “Simplify Life”), and there are other services I’m evaluating to determine if I should keep or cancel them-long term.
I’m not canceling any of my essential or “necessary” subscriptions, and there are even some services I have that are not necessarily can’t-live-without but that do add enough value to my life where it is worth keeping them active. However, some of my subscriptions contained “overlap” with other services, or I just wasn’t getting enough out of them to make it worth my investment.
Here are a handful of reasons you should take a look at your subscriptions list and consider cancelling superfluous services today.
1. Saves money: The question I asked when going through my services list was, would I rater have access to this subscription, or would I rather have the monetary equivalent sitting in my bank? Unless it was a subscription or service that added enough benefit or value to my life, I’d rather cancel it and “pay myself” with the extra added savings.
2. Saves hassle: Having too many subscriptions or services can become a hassle and drain on one’s mind to manage. Scaling back unused or unnecessary services allows one to live simpler without having to “manage” all of these services.
3. Simplifies life: I’m always looking for ways to simplify my life and make my life run more smoothly. Too many subscriptions, services, apps, devices, etc., gets in that way.
For a good weekend project, take a look at your services and subscriptions list today and see what you can cancel. You’ll be glad you did!
